Maybe the nipple is a GPS sender/transmitter..... so that troopers dont get lost in the snow ? Logical deduction could be for communication purposes, since Snowtrooper Commanders are the main Blizzard Force liaison between the Snowtrooper ground troops and the AT-ATs. Perhaps that "nipple"...
